Different 1. bands
1. The wavelength range of CWDM optical module is 1270 ~ 1610nm, and the band interval is 20nm. There are 18 channels to choose from, usually 1470 ~ 1610nm band is used, and the common transmission distance is 40KM, 80KM and 120KM. The transmission rates of CWDM optical modules are 155M, 1.25G and 10G, corresponding to SFP and SFP /XFP package types respectively.
2. The wavelength of DWDM optical module is located in C band (C17 ~ C61), ranging from 1563.86 to 1528.77nm, with a band interval of 0.8nm. There are 45 channels to choose from, and the common transmission distance is 40KM and 80KM. The package types of 10G DWDM optical modules are SFP and XFP.
2. application scenarios are different
1. CWDM optical module is applied to metropolitan access network, enterprise network and campus network;
2. DWDM optical modules are applied to core nodes of long-distance trunk networks and large-capacity metropolitan area networks.
The wavelength division multiplexer/demultiplexer used by the 3. is different.
1, CWDM optical module needs to be used with CWDM wavelength division multiplexer and CWDM demultiplexer to realize optical network interconnection;

In order to prevent the wavelength from drifting out of the filter channel of the multiplexer and demultiplexer due to temperature changes, DWDM optical modules need to use cooled lasers (temperature coordination), while CWDM optical modules use uncooled lasers (electronic coordination).

Under the premise of the same transmission distance, the DWDM optical module is more expensive than the CWDM optical module due to the modulation laser, so the DWDM optical module is more expensive than the CWDM optical module.
